Real World Project Planning
We have completed three modules (six sessions) of our course, Real World Project Planning. We have two modules (4 sessions) to go.
The course aims to equip participants with advanced project planning skills to enable them to raise their heads above the crowd and earn the premium wages for their services that they deserve.
We have so far covered:
- Introduction to Project Management where we reviewed, among other things, the key stages in the project life cycle and highlighted the important features of each stage, stage deliverables and stage gate review. We also reviewed the key specialist skills (Knowledge Areas) necessary for effective project delivery.
- Project Management Context and Environment where we examined the strategic significance of projects as a vehicle for implementing strategic objectives. We also examined the positive and negative influences of the organization environment on the project execution.
- Project Planning Fundamentals where we reviewed the planning process group and planning steps. Participants learned how to read the ITT package and distill assumptions and constraints, confirm scope of work, develop appropriate WBS and define activities.
- Project Schedule Development where we reviewed the fundamentals of estimating. Participants learned how project definition level affects estimating method, estimate class and corresponding estimate accuracy attainable. It also reviewed activity sequencing, resource and duration estimating as well as scheduling.
The course instructor drew examples from international projects to illustrate application of project management theory and concepts.
The course also includes hands-on exercises, case studies drawn from the industry as well as video presentation of project processes.
