That Vulture’s House Project
Have you heard of the Vulture’s House Project?
Well, an African folk story says that the African vulture was once caught in a thunderstorm with nowhere to shelter. He was thoroughly drenched and helpless under the rain that did not seem about to stop.
Then the vulture vowed that he would build his house as soon as the rain subsided to prevent a repeat of that terrible experience. Finally, the rain stopped, and the sun started shining brightly. Then the vulture decided to dry up first and look for food. “I will build the house later”, he said. The next time he remembered the house project was when he was under another heavy rain.
That reminds me of The Law of Diminishing Intent. The Law of Diminishing Intent, according to John Maxwell, states that the longer you delay doing something you should do now, the more likely that you will never actually do it.
Does that remind you of something you should have done to improve yourself, your career, or some other aspect of your life? I mean something you should have done two years ago, last year, last month or even yesterday that you have postponed until a more favorable time. When will you remember it? Under another heavy rain?
Well, John Wooden, the legendary American Basketball Coach, is reported as saying, “when opportunity knocks, it is too late to prepare.”
Yes, when the next rain comes, it will be too late for the vulture to build the house.
Don’t wait. Start here, and here or here.
And let the next rain meet you comfortably seated in your own well-built house!
